7 police reports filed over Sungai Johor pollution incident

Johor police receive 7 reports over Sungai Johor pollution affecting 1.8 million residents, with water supply recovery now at 93%.

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have received seven reports regarding the Sungai Johor pollution incident in Kota Tinggi.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad confirmed four additional reports were lodged yesterday.

These included one from a mine owner and three from affected villagers.

“Seven police reports have been received since Oct 31, comprising one from Ranhill SAJ and two from residents earlier,” he told reporters.

Ab Rahaman said police are assisting investigations by the Department of Environment and National Water Services Commission.

He noted that Ranhill SAJ will conduct its own investigation into the incident.

The pollution affected 455,757 account holders, representing nearly 1.8 million Johor residents.

Contamination originated from a breached sand-washing pond at a land-based mining site.

This forced temporary shutdowns at several water treatment plants last Friday.

Ranhill SAJ reported water supply recovery had reached 93% in affected districts yesterday.

The affected areas include Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru, Pontian and Kulai. – Bernama
