Police say a KLIA bomb hoax suspect left a threatening note to prevent a coursemate from tampering with his luggage, with no criminal intent found
SEPANG: Police have determined there was no criminal intent behind a bomb hoax that disrupted a flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Tuesday.
KLIA police chief ACP Azman Shari’at said the individual triggered the hoax to prevent his luggage from being tampered with by a coursemate.
“The suspect was remanded for three days but released on police bail,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Azman confirmed an investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for review.
He explained the suspect allegedly left a threatening note on the baggage tag of his checked-in luggage.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the incident was first reported at 5.32 pm shortly before the flight’s scheduled departure.
Its Aviation Security Team activated response protocols, secured the area, and coordinated with relevant authorities.
All passengers remained safe throughout the process, according to MAHB.
The affected flight later departed with remaining passengers at 7.19 pm.
Aviation Security, police, and the bomb disposal unit completed a detailed assessment of the scene.
Authorities confirmed the situation was safe and the incident was a hoax at 8.58 pm. – Bernama
