Man jumps into path of oncoming vehicle on Batu Lanchang flyover

GEORGE TOWN: A man who deliberately threw himself onto the road in the path of an oncoming vehicle at the Batu Lanchang flyover here yesterday is suspected of having mental health issues, police said.

Northeast district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said investigations found that the man was a foreign national believed to be from Myanmar and did not possess valid travel documents.

“No fatalities were reported in the 4.16 pm incident. The suspect was arrested in connection with a separate house trespassing case reported at Jalan Kurau, Jelutong,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Earlier, a 22-second video went viral showing a vehicle narrowly avoiding a man after he suddenly threw himself onto the middle of the road while the vehicle was travelling along the flyover.
