Perkeso, MACC dismantle RM3.8 million invalidity pension fraud ring

Perkeso and MACC arrest six in ‘Ops Stroke’, preventing an estimated RM3.78 million loss from falsified pension claims and recovering RM220,000.

KUALA LUMPUR: Six individuals have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a syndicate falsifying documents for Invalidity Pension claims.

The arrests, including several insured persons and an alleged mastermind, followed intelligence operations under “Ops Stroke”.

Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the operation was a collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Investigations began on Sept 3 last year and preliminary findings show fraudulent claims resulted in payouts of about RM220,000.

Mohammed Azman said swift action prevented a much larger projected loss of RM3.78 million.

He advised contributors to deal directly with Perkeso for free claim applications to avoid manipulation by third parties.

“Perkeso constantly monitors for any elements of manipulation or fraud,” he said in a statement.

He urged contributors to be honest, warning that false documents lead to rejected claims and legal action.

Such fraud poses a serious threat to the sustainability of national social security funds.

Fund leakages jeopardise Perkeso’s ability to assist genuinely eligible contributors in need.
