PKR candidate cleared of bribery in asset probe: MACC

MACC investigation finds no evidence of bribery against a PKR election candidate, confirming assets were funded by legitimate personal and business sources.

KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation into a candidate from May’s PKR elections has found no evidence of receiving bribes from contractors or other parties.

A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission source said the probe confirmed all funds for asset purchases came from personal savings, business proceeds and company sales.

The asset review found the individual owns several medium-cost houses and vehicles bought through legitimate bank loans.

Claims of an “extravagant” house in Port Dickson were inaccurate, with the source stating it was a local authority asset sold through a standard disposal process.

The purchase was made at RM55,000, a rate also used by several other council members who followed proper procedures.

The individual had run several businesses before entering politics, which have since been sold.

The source noted the company registration was not transferred at the Companies Commission of Malaysia, requiring an explanation to the Inland Revenue Board regarding sales proceeds.

The individual fully cooperated with the MACC during the investigation.

They were previously called to give a statement over bribery allegations while serving as a council member at a Klang Valley local authority.

Yesterday, the MACC denied allegations it was used to investigate contestants in the PKR elections.

The commission stated every complaint with merit undergoes verification and investigation according to the law and established procedures.
