Police increase search for Indira Gandhi’s ex-husband

Police are intensifying the search for Indira Gandhi’s ex-husband and daughter while investigating alleged identity misuse for government aid claims.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is intensifying its search for M Indira Gandhi’s former husband and their daughter to enforce an Ipoh High Court ruling.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police are also investigating allegations that someone has been using his identity to access government aid programmes.

“A review is also being carried out with the Malaysian Immigration Department to verify the status of the Special Travel Restriction, which remains in effect against the accused,” he said.

The IGP reported that 18 case management sessions have been held at the Ipoh High Court since 2021.

He assured that the case is being handled professionally and transparently to uphold the rule of law.

The public has been advised to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.

Police also called on anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward at their nearest police station.

This follows last Friday’s ruling where the Ipoh High Court ordered police to widen its search for Indira Gandhi’s ex-husband.

The case originates from 2009 when Muhammad Riduan converted their three children to Islam without Indira Gandhi’s consent.

On Jan 29, 2018, the Federal Court ruled that the conversion of all three children was void and unlawful.

The Federal Court also directed the IGP to apprehend Muhammad Riduan for defying the High Court order to surrender the couple’s youngest daughter.
