Police seize 61 modified motorcycles in 11-hour Sibu operation

Sibu police detained 61 modified motorcycles and issued 268 summonses in overnight operation targeting illegal street racing activities.

SIBU: Police conducted an 11-hour raid on a street-racing hotspot along Jalan Kong Yit Khim-Sibu Jaya and seized 61 modified motorcycles.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated the operation ran from 9 pm yesterday until 8 am today to curb illegal street racing and ensure road users follow traffic laws.

Officers inspected 92 motorcycles during the operation and detained 61 under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications.

Police also inspected over 120 individuals comprising 114 men and six women during the same operation.

Authorities issued 268 summonses for various traffic offences including modified exhausts and driving without valid licences.

Summonses were also issued for vehicle modifications and motorcycles operating without registration numbers.

Zulkipli confirmed such operations would continue targeting motorcyclists to prevent street racing in the district. – Bernama
