Sarawak GOF seizes RM4 million in contraband across multiple operations

General Operations Force Sarawak seized RM4.04 million worth of liquor, cigarettes and diesel in nine successful operations across the state.

KUCHING: The General Operations Force Sarawak Brigade has seized contraband worth over RM4 million in a series of recent operations.

Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said nine successful operations were conducted between October 14 and 27 under Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo and Op Taring Batas/Awas.

Total seizures during this period amounted to RM4.04 million across multiple locations in Sarawak.

The largest single operation occurred in Sibu on October 23, where 14 individuals including two Indonesians were arrested for diesel embezzlement.

That operation resulted in the seizure of 38,800 litres of diesel fuel with an estimated value of RM1.03 million.

Authorities also confiscated skid tanks, IBC tanks, machines and nine vehicles during the Sibu raid.

Earlier on October 14 in Sibu, five men including three locals and two Indonesians were arrested with 24,552 litres of liquor worth more than RM1.17 million.

On October 16 in Kuching, five individuals were arrested with 395,600 kretek cigarettes valued at RM791,200.

In Lundu on October 21, a 43-year-old local man was arrested for smuggling 200 litres of diesel with seizure value of RM130,660 including a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The same day in Sibu saw two local men arrested with cigarettes and various liquors worth RM31,884.40.

Also on October 21, a 25-year-old woman was arrested in Kota Samarahan with 107,000 white cigarettes and 2,055 litres of liquor worth RM275,919.60.

In Bintulu on October 21, a 31-year-old man was arrested with contraband valued at RM511,506.

Four persons were arrested in Sri Aman on October 22 with cigarettes and liquor valued at RM97,574.87.

On October 23 in Lundu, GOF seized 16 gas cylinders worth RM2,585.60 which were handed to the Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications.

“These operations demonstrate our continued commitment to combating smuggling activities across Sarawak,” Lim said in a statement. – Bernama
