PM Anwar says RM44.5 million flood mitigation projects in Petaling Jaya and Damansara prove opposition-held seats still receive federal allocations.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that the government has never stopped providing development allocations to opposition-held parliamentary constituencies, and described the approval for 30 flood mitigation projects worth RM44.5 million in Petaling Jaya and Damansara as proof of that commitment.
He said the projects, approved through cooperation between the Federal Government and the Selangor government, demonstrated that allegations of the government cutting development allocations were baseless.
Anwar said the government continued to channel funds that benefit the people, including for schools, houses of worship, drainage systems and other development projects, but the allocations are no longer disbursed directly through the offices of Members of Parliament (MPs) who do not support the government.
“It’s the people who require the projects, not the MPs. That’s why we continue to disburse allocations to national schools, Chinese national-type schools, Tamil national-type schools, houses of worship, drainage upgrading works and other public needs through the proper process.
“So, to claim that there are no allocations or that we have cut them is untrue. I have not cut allocations meant for the people. What we do not provide is funding through the offices of MPs. Therefore, there is no basis for any politician to claim that the money or allocations do not exist,” he said.
He said this at the Generasi Muda Suara Baharu Programme organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) at the Petaling Jaya Smart Centre here today.
Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the PKR Information chief, and AMK head Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.
Elaborating, Anwar said the flood mitigation projects are part of the government’s efforts to address areas identified as flood hotspots in Petaling Jaya and Damansara.
He said the government would continue to ensure that approved development projects are implemented through the proper channels so that their benefits can be enjoyed by the people, regardless of their constituency or political leaning.
Previously, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung claimed that his office had been unable to access the MyKhas portal since May 29, resulting in disruptions to matters related to constituency allocations and People-Friendly Projects (PMR), which could no longer be carried out as usual.
Lee was among the PKR leaders who recently announced their resignation as members of the party’s Central Leadership Council (MPP).
