Global Sumud Flotilla plans second Gaza aid mission for mid-year

The Global Sumud Flotilla’s second humanitarian mission to Gaza is planned for mid-year, aiming to break Israel’s blockade and increase international pressure.

BANGI: The Global Sumud Flotilla steering committee plans to launch its second humanitarian mission to Gaza in the middle of this year.

The mission is a response to Israel’s deliberate efforts to delay and block aid entry, reflecting a worsening conflict, said Sumud Nusantara Control Centre director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby.

He stated that if the conflict continues, international pressure must be mobilised as a last resort.

Sani Araby, also CEO of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, spoke after a roundtable discussion at Wisma MAPIM today.

He did not reveal the exact launch date for security reasons but hopes participation will exceed the first mission’s 45 countries.

The focus will be on raising global public awareness to push governments into diplomatic action.

“This time, one of the most important strategies is to mobilise groups from the public, non-governmental organisations, governments, and world leaders,” he said.

He explained this would show the mission is an action rejecting the regime’s inhumane acts.

Sani Araby expects the conflict to possibly intensify around spring or mid-year based on current ground developments.

This aligns with concerns the situation may worsen without serious efforts to stop the violence.

The first GSF mission in September saw hundreds of activists, including 34 Malaysians, sail towards Gaza with aid.

All 41 vessels were intercepted by Israeli forces on October 1, with activists detained before deportation.
