Govt to form special committee on STPM, matriculation transfer

A special committee will study moving STPM and matriculation programmes to the Higher Education Ministry for better university entry coordination.

LUMUT: The government will establish a special committee to study a proposal to place the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) and matriculation programme under the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE).

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the move is part of a process under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which comes into effect next year.

He told reporters the committee’s report will be tabled in Parliament, followed by amendments to the existing Act.

Zambry said the proposal aims to better coordinate the student evaluation and admission process for university entry.

He dismissed claims that the proposal would disadvantage certain races, stressing that such allegations are baseless.

“We take note of these concerns, but it is too early to draw conclusions on a matter that is still inconclusive,” he said.
