Key road, bridge, and water supply projects are actively progressing in Kinarut and Papar to address traffic and support local development.
PAPAR: Several major infrastructure issues in the Kinarut and Papar areas are currently being actively addressed.
These initiatives include critical road projects, water supply improvements, and the construction of a new bridge.
Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali confirmed the main Kinarut Selatan road project linking Penampang to Benoni is fully completed. He stated this project is expected to help resolve traffic problems in the area.
“Although this project is not part of the Pan Borneo Highway, it has been completed, but the handover process to the government has yet to be finalised,” he told reporters. He added that related issues like U-turn lanes and road safety will be addressed for additional funding after the handover.
Armizan, who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, spoke after officiating the opening of the Kinarut Palm Avenue shoplot building. Other road projects in Kinarut are awaiting tender evaluation and approval by the Works Ministry’s Procurement Board.
He said continuous efforts are being made to start the project as soon as possible. This push aligns with rapid development in Kinarut, including the Kinarut Pump City and Kinarut Pump Avenue developments.
The road project from the Sabindo roundabout to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kinarut has been approved and is undergoing the tender process. Armizan said this project is expected to ease traffic congestion over the next three years.
Furthermore, the construction of a new bridge linking Kampung Pengalat Kecil to Sungai Padang has also been approved. It is expected to be tendered in the second quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, WSG Group managing director Datuk Susan Wong said the Kinarut Palm Avenue commercial development is expected to generate significant employment. She said about 1,000 job opportunities are expected to be created for the local community.
Priority for these jobs will be given to local residents to reduce reliance on workers from outside districts. Also present at the event were Kawang assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar and Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim.
