JKM sets Malaysia record for largest child protection advocacy programme

JKM receives Malaysia Book of Records recognition for reaching 337 schools and 128,148 children through its child protection advocacy programme

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Welfare Department has earned Malaysia Book of Records recognition for its Child Protection Advocacy Programme: Kasih Kanak-Kanak.

The programme was listed as ‘The Largest Child Protection Advocacy Programme’ in the country.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the achievement followed the programme surpassing its original target of 300 schools.

It ultimately reached 337 schools and benefited 128,148 children in 2024.

“The programme also encourages community engagement, particularly through the reporting of abuse cases via Talian Kasih 15999,” she said at the National Children’s Day 2025 celebration.

“This recognition is a strong testament to the commitment and dedication of all parties in strengthening child advocacy efforts.”

Noraini said the initiative underscores the continuous commitment to strengthening the roles of schools and parents in protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

She noted the programme’s effectiveness has been enhanced through cooperation with the Education Ministry, police, MCMC and Child Protection Teams.

At a press conference, Noraini revealed the programme recorded encouraging progress in 2025.

Participation expanded to 517 schools and 44 Children Activity Centres, exceeding the initial target of 30 centres.

Nearly 62,000 children have benefited from the programme this year alone, excluding the 2024 total.

“We remain committed, through JKM, to strengthening community involvement to ensure children receive proper protection,” she said.

Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail officiated the event.

In her speech, she emphasised that all parties must play a role in ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing.

“We must recognise that children are the nation’s most valuable asset and the next generation of leaders,” she said.

“The theme Hari Ini, Suaraku symbolises our determination to ensure that every child can express their views.”

This year’s National Children’s Day celebration featured the participation of 1,000 children nationwide.

Seven categories of awards were presented to outstanding children and NGOs. – Bernama
