Johor’s Kasih voucher pilot offers RM200 per family to spur spending at Kampung Melayu Majidi’s public market and Medan Niaga, supporting local traders and the economy.
JOHOR BAHRU: Residents of Kampung Melayu Majidi will receive Johor Kasih vouchers worth RM200 per family starting next month.
The pilot programme aims to encourage purchases at the area’s public market and the Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidi.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the initiative is a strategic move to strengthen support for local traders and boost the local economy.
“This pilot programme must be supported by the commitment of traders to continuously improve food quality, dish presentation, premises cleanliness and customer service,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added the initiative aligns with the state’s goal to make the market a model for organised, clean and people-friendly food court management.
Onn Hafiz also inspected operations at the Medan Niaga yesterday, accompanied by state executive councillors.
He said the visit aimed to ensure trader welfare and visitor comfort remained a priority.
It also served as a platform for open engagement with the traders.
“Through this visit, we were able to hear first-hand the views, suggestions and challenges faced in their daily business operations,” he said.
The state government has previously implemented various initiatives to support local traders at the site.
These include offering rental discounts of up to 50% until the end of the year.
Several facilities have also been upgraded, including the installation of fly traps and televisions.
Improvements to cleanliness and overall comfort in the food court area have also been made.
