Kelantan to offer free online tuition for SPM students

Kelantan’s free online tuition for SPM candidates expands after a successful trial, aiming to improve exam results across the state.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan government will launch free online tuition for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates starting next year.

State Education, Higher Education, Green Technology, Digital, and Innovation Committee Chairman Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the ‘E-Tuisyen Rakyat Sejahtera’ initiative demonstrates the state’s commitment to producing excellent SPM students.

A trial programme has already been conducted in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia, involving 1,896 students with an allocation of nearly RM100,000.

“For next year, we intend to further expand this initiative by providing the best formats in collaboration with expert teachers to offer this online tuition for free to all SPM candidates throughout Kelantan,” he said.

Wan Roslan made these remarks while responding to a supplementary question from Nor Asilah Mohamed Zin (PAS-Limbongan) at the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly sitting.

The expansion follows last year’s successful ‘Tuisyen Rakyat Sejahtera’ programme, which showed positive impact on student achievement in SPM examinations.

Last year’s programme focused on four core subjects with 1,495 participants and an allocation of RM477,000.

Kelantan’s SPM results improved to 95.99% in 2024 compared to 95.08% in 2023, prompting the expansion to 2,604 students this year.

The state government may extend the tuition initiative to STPM and STAM candidates in the future to provide quality supplementary learning access. – Bernama
