Malaysia launches TaniStats 2.0 to modernise agricultural data management

DOSM launches TaniStats 2.0, an enhanced digital agriculture statistics platform with AI analytics and geospatial tools to support data-driven policy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Statistics Malaysia has launched TaniStats 2.0, an upgraded digital gateway for national agricultural statistics.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar officiated the launch at the Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku Programme and the 2025 National Public Service Reform Convention in Putrajaya.

The smart integrated platform consolidates various national agricultural data sources into a single digital ecosystem.

This includes findings from the 2024 Agricultural Census, administrative data from agencies, agrifood prices, food security indicators and supply chain information.

DOSM stated that TaniStats 2.0 represents a cornerstone in transforming the country’s agricultural data management.

It supports the ‘Daya Cipta’ pillar of the Malaysia MADANI concept, which emphasises innovation and human capital empowerment.

The platform also aligns with the Public Sector Reform agenda to strengthen digitalisation and inter-agency data integration.

It aims to establish a more integrated, efficient and data-driven public service ecosystem with near real-time capabilities.

TaniStats 2.0 consolidates upstream and downstream data, including agricultural product value chains from farm to consumer.

It features food security statistics covering supply, consumption and food balance for selected commodities.

Key enhancements include the CitraTani Module for examining production trends, productivity levels and detailed subsector information.

The system is equipped with interactive and geospatial visualisations using digital maps.

These tools allow for more comprehensive monitoring of production zones, critical areas and food security risks.

The platform is further strengthened with AgroBot, an intelligent assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence.

AgroBot helps users navigate the portal, obtain instant explanations and conduct preliminary analysis more efficiently.

In a related achievement, DOSM noted Malaysia ranked first globally in the 2024/25 Open Data Inventory report.

This marks a significant leap from the 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment, outperforming 197 other countries.

The OpenDOSM NextGen portal provides data catalogues and visualisations accessible at https://open.dosm.gov.my. – Bernama
