Man faces drug trafficking charges for over 2kg of meth in Sibu

A 57-year-old man charged with trafficking 2.05kg of methamphetamine faces potential death penalty or life imprisonment in Sibu court case.

SIBU: A 57-year-old man faced two drug-related charges in the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Moh Mee Hing was charged with trafficking 2.05kg of methamphetamine and consuming drugs last month.

He pleaded not guilty to the drug consumption charge while no plea was recorded for the trafficking offence.

The trafficking charge alleges he possessed the drugs at a house in Lorong 6, Rejang Park on October 22.

If convicted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he faces either the death penalty or life imprisonment.

A life imprisonment sentence would also carry at least 15 strokes of the cane.

The second charge accuses him of consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine at Sungai Merah police station.

This charge carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years imprisonment.

The court may also order supervision for two to three years upon sentence completion.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi denied bail and ordered the accused to remain in remand.

The case has been fixed for mention on February 6 next year pending the Chemistry Department’s report.

Deputy public prosecutor Haris Danial Mohamed Hassan appeared for the prosecution.

Lawyer Rosli Gapor represented the accused in the proceedings. – Bernama
