Malaysia and China strengthen anti-corruption partnership at Vienna meeting

MACC and China’s NCS agree to expand cooperation in fighting corruption, sharing investigation techniques and exploring Belt and Road collaboration.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and China have agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership in international anti-corruption efforts.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and China’s National Commission of Supervision reached this agreement during a bilateral meeting in Vienna on Monday.

The meeting occurred alongside the 14th Assembly of Parties of the International Anti-Corruption Academy at the Vienna International Centre.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki led the Malaysian delegation, while China’s delegation was headed by Secretary and Deputy Dean Liu Shuo.

“This cooperation provides both parties an opportunity to exchange views, enhance capabilities and develop new, more effective approaches to combating corruption on the global stage,” Azam said in a statement.

The Chinese commission expressed interest in learning from MACC’s experience in corruption investigations, prevention methods, public education and asset recovery.

Both parties mutually agreed to explore collaboration opportunities under China’s Belt and Road initiative.

They will also provide support and positive interventions in international anti-corruption meetings.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman and Policy Division director Datuk Rasidah Abdul Karim also attended the meeting. – Bernama
