MyGOV Malaysia app meets global security standards, stores no personal data

MyGOV Malaysia app built to international security standards, doesn’t store personal data, with 113,000 downloads since August beta launch.

KUALA LUMPUR: The MyGOV Malaysia mobile application meets international security standards and does not copy or store users’ personal data.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo confirmed the platform’s security credentials during a parliamentary session on Monday.

He explained that all services integrated into the platform must undergo comprehensive security testing and data-protection compliance checks.

“Every service integrated into the platform must undergo security testing and data-protection compliance checks, in addition to risk assessments and system audits, before public rollout,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.

The minister was responding to Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau), who inquired about personal information safeguards against third-party access.

Gobind emphasized that MyGOV Malaysia functions solely as a service-delivery platform without retaining personal information.

“MyGOV Malaysia remains a service-delivery platform without retaining any personal data,” he stated.

Integration occurs through application programming interfaces, with all data securely maintained within each agency’s own systems.

The app’s operations undergo continuous monitoring in compliance with national legislation, including the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and Cybersecurity Act 2024.

Since its beta launch on August 16, the application has recorded 113,000 downloads.

The initial phase integrates 36 services from 13 government agencies, including the Road Transport Department, Immigration Department, and National Registration Department.

Sixteen additional services are currently undergoing technical integration, covering driving licence renewals and traffic summons payments.

Upcoming features will include utility bill payments, zakat deductions, and local authorities’ summons and tax payments.

Applications for replacement MyKad and unclaimed money checks through the eGUMIS system are also being implemented.

The Manfaat portal access will help citizens verify eligibility for government aid and initiatives more easily. – Bernama
