Sarawak’s AirBorneo is open to negotiating air travel warrants for civil servants, with plans to expand international routes using new jets from July.

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has stated that state-owned airline AirBorneo is open to negotiations with the federal government regarding air travel ticket warrants for civil servants.

He confirmed the initiative is part of the airline’s planning, adding that discussions would follow the commencement of jet aircraft operations in July.

“These jets will connect Kuching with international destinations, including Japan, South Korea and ASEAN countries,” he told reporters after a Walk for Health programme at the Sarawak Botanical Garden.

AirBorneo currently serves 21 destinations, providing connectivity to rural areas in Sarawak and Sabah.

The airline began commercial operations on Jan 2, 2026, after taking over from MASwings.
