Bus driver in viral lap-riding video to be questioned

Police will question an express bus driver and a woman after a video showed him driving with her on his lap, a serious safety breach.

JASIN: Police have confirmed that an express bus driver and a woman will present themselves for questioning tomorrow following a viral video of the dangerous incident.

The 36-year-old male driver, currently in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur, and the woman, who is believed to be known to him and is in Kedah, will give their statements at the Jasin District Police Headquarters.

Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert stated that officers had contacted the driver, adding that the woman would travel to Kuala Lumpur tonight before both attend the questioning session.

He confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving that endangered passengers and other road users.

The eight-second viral Facebook video shows the woman sitting on the driver’s lap as the bus is in motion.

Initial police checks indicate the incident likely occurred on April 12 at about 7.30 pm at the Bemban Rest and Service Area southbound entrance ramp.

The video began circulating widely on social media on April 13 at around 5.30 pm.
