Johor’s Tunku Ismail orders immediate road and light repairs

Johor’s Regent demands regular infrastructure maintenance with public timelines for fixes as street light failures plague key roads.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, has instructed local councils to ensure proper management of road maintenance, street lighting and public facilities.

His Royal Highness stressed that the public should be informed of estimated timelines for resolving these issues.

“They also need to inform the public about the timeline for resolving these issues, given the numerous complaints regarding non-functioning street lights and other maintenance problems,” he stated via Facebook.

Tunku Ismail earlier granted an audience to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman, Johor Bahru Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad and Pasir Gudang Mayor Datin Paduka Hazlina Jalil.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz conducted a site visit to inspect affected roads including Pasir Gudang Highway and the Rinting-Seri Alam Intersection following public complaints.

The inspection revealed several main locations still had non-functioning street lights with only some operational, potentially endangering users particularly in industrial areas and key junctions at night.

Therefore, MBJB and MBPG along with relevant concessionaires were instructed to submit comprehensive reports and take immediate action to replace or repair faulty lights.

“Emphasis has also been placed on improving lighting in dark and high-risk areas,” he added.

He further stressed that regular maintenance must be carried out more systematically and scheduled to monitor and prevent recurring street light issues.

Onn Hafiz said the state government would continue monitoring repair works and ensure all lighting infrastructure is maintained at optimal levels for public safety and wellbeing. – Bernama
