Road Transport Department issues 5,741 summonses in three-state operation, with driving without a licence among the top offences recorded
JOHOR BAHRU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 5,741 summonses for various offences during a cross-border operation in three southern states.
A total of 26,358 vehicles were inspected in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka during the operation from last Saturday until today.
Johor JPJ Director Zulkarnain Yasin said 2,382 summonses were issued in Negeri Sembilan, followed by 1,731 in Johor and 1,628 in Melaka.
Driving without a valid licence was among the highest recorded offences, with 1,601 summonses issued.
Zulkarnain noted that 40% of these summonses involved underage individuals.
“Additionally, JPJ issued 1,371 summonses for failure to renew licences and 1,175 notices for lack of insurance coverage,” he said at a press conference at the Skudai Toll Plaza.
The department also seized 77 vehicles deemed unsafe or unfit for road use during the operation.
The operation involved 146 JPJ officers and personnel aiming to raise public awareness on road regulation compliance.
“Throughout this operation, we found that public perception regarding the likelihood of being caught when committing traffic offences has also increased to 88%,” Zulkarnain said.
He stressed that JPJ takes such matters seriously and will not compromise with violators.
Negeri Sembilan JPJ Director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf and Melaka JPJ Director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop were also present at the press conference. – Bernama
