Kanowit Festival continues bringing together diverse communities, fostering unity and showcasing rural tourism potential in Sarawak.
SIBU: The Kanowit Festival continues serving as a platform for uniting people of different races, religions and cultures according to National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang.
He stated that the festival which began in 2003 represents both an anticipated annual event and a significant contributor to rural community harmony.
Aaron emphasised that unity represents more than just a slogan but rather a way of life demonstrated through understanding, respect and celebration of diversity.
He described the festival spirit as reflecting the true essence of Malaysian harmony through collective participation.
The Kanowit MP noted that the community’s diverse ethnic composition coming together demonstrates unity as an achievable reality rather than merely a concept.
Aaron explained this alignment with the Ministry of National Unity’s 2026 aspiration focusing on nation-state building as central to unity.
He characterised nation-state as representing the unifying spirit among people sharing one homeland, destiny and future.
Aaron stressed that nurturing this spirit across all districts strengthens national unity while preserving ethnic heritage and Malaysian identity.
He expressed the vision of expanding Kanowit’s unity model nationwide to build a united, sovereign and prosperous nation.
The minister called for enhanced festival programmes through active community participation including youth, arts and tourism sectors.
The Kanowit Festival featured numerous engaging activities since October 18 including various boat races and cultural events.
This annual celebration also promotes Kanowit District as a rural tourism destination under its memorable slogan. – Bernama
