Local fishing vessel operated by foreigners detained off Kuala Langat

A local fishing boat crewed by two undocumented foreign men was detained by Maritime Malaysia in Selangor waters for lacking permits and valid IDs

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Selangor has detained a local fishing vessel operated by two foreign nationals in the waters off Kuala Langat.

The Class A fishing boat was intercepted by an MMEA patrol vessel during a routine operation at approximately 7.30 pm yesterday.

The Selangor Maritime director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the vessel was detained 4.61 nautical miles southwest of Pantai Kelanang.

An inspection revealed the boat was operated by a 40-year-old foreign skipper and a crew member of the same age.

Both individuals failed to produce any valid identification documents during the inspection.

They also did not possess a work permit or a letter of permission from the Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia.

The two men, along with the seized fishing equipment and marine catch, were taken to the Marine Police Jetty on Pulau Indah.

The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
