Malaysia drives AI and smart tech for industrial competitiveness

MOSTI accelerates AI, smart systems and green tech adoption to boost Malaysia’s industrial competitiveness and integrate technology into real-world infrastructure.

IPOH: Malaysia is accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), smart systems, automation, and energy-efficient solutions across its industrial sectors.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said this profound transformation is being driven by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) under its national innovation agenda.

He said the initiatives focus on AI, digital transformation, smart manufacturing, green technology, and high-value engineering to strengthen Malaysia’s technological ecosystem and enhance national competitiveness.

Chang stressed that technology must be effectively integrated into real-world applications to deliver tangible impact.

“Technology cannot exist in isolation. Its true value is realised only when it is integrated into real world infrastructure, buildings, factories, hospitals, transport systems, and industrial facilities,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of mechanical and electrical engineering company Kee Ming Group Bhd’s prospectus.

Chang noted that core engineering domains are increasingly enhanced by data-driven and intelligent technologies.

“AI enables predictive maintenance that reduces downtime and cost. Smart energy management systems optimise consumption and support sustainability goals,” he said.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state government has a clear development approach through the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan.

He said the plan focuses on building an economic ecosystem that supports the sustainable growth of high-value industries.

“This approach emphasises policy certainty; the development of strategic infrastructure, energy and technology; as well as the empowerment of human capital as the foundation of long-term competitiveness,” Saarani said.

He added that the M&E engineering sector is a core component supporting industrial transition in the state.

Saarani said capable local companies enable the state’s industrial ecosystem to function holistically while creating high-skilled jobs.

“Companies that are able to combine technical capabilities, strong governance, as well as the development of skills and green technology will be in a more resilient and competitive position,” he added.
