Malaysia’s NIMP 2030 sectors attract RM29.2 billion investments in H1 2025

Malaysia’s NIMP 2030 priority sectors secured RM29.2 billion investments, creating 17,056 jobs with high capital intensity and value-added rates

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s key manufacturing sectors under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) attracted RM29.2 billion in investments during the first half of 2025.

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) confirmed these investments represent 42.7% of the total RM68.4 billion approved for the manufacturing sector from January to June.

These investments comprise 178 projects expected to generate 17,056 job opportunities.

Capital Investment Per Employee reached RM1.7 million per job, exceeding the minimum benchmark of RM140,000 by more than twelve times.

“This figure reflects the high level of capital and technology intensity, which is in line with the government’s aspiration to attract high-quality investments,” MITI stated in a parliamentary reply.

The priority sectors include electrical and electronics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, aerospace and medical devices.

MITI was responding to Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) who sought details on high-quality investments and their impact on high-income job creation.

For high-income positions, 21,896 potential new jobs were identified in managerial, technical and supervisory categories from total 46,690 job opportunities.

Within NIMP 2030 sectors, 8,241 positions fall into the managerial, technical and supervisory category, representing 48.3% of total jobs.

Regarding domestic economic chain strengthening, NIMP sectors recorded high value-added rates across key industries.

Aerospace led with 65.6% value-added rate, followed by medical devices at 61.9% and chemicals at 58.0%.

These rates significantly exceed the minimum 40% requirement, indicating stronger industry complexity and maturity.

The performance aligns with NIMP 2030’s goal of strengthening Malaysia’s domestic value chain through quality investments. – Bernama
