New AKPS service scheme from July 1 opens doors to existing enforcement officers

The government will introduce a more competitive service scheme from July 1 to attract serving enforcement officers to join AKPS, says its director-general

SEGAMAT: The government, through the Public Service Department (PSD), will introduce a more competitive service scheme beginning July 1 to attract serving enforcement officers to join the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the special offer for existing enforcement personnel includes two annual salary increments, an additional RM200, as well as retention of seniority and overtime allowance benefits.

He said the package is the best service scheme ever offered for serving personnel seeking transfer to the agency.

“As such, I do not see any reason for monthly income to be cited as a factor affecting the quality of service. This time, the government has made a firm decision, and I think it is a good offer for them to join AKPS,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending a meet-and-greet session and observing the reporting session for AKPS Trainees Series 1/2026 at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Segamat here today.

Meanwhile, commenting on the agency’s human resource planning, he said a total of 478 AKPS trainees from the first intake will undergo a three-month intensive training programme in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Besides physical endurance training, Mohd Shuhaily said the trainees would also be exposed to laws enforced by various agencies in the field, including those under the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), and the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) Department.

“Three months is quite a short period for us to instil and ensure that they fully understand everything, but the objective is to build the physical and mental resilience required to serve on the front line.

“Discipline is key to preventing border leakages, so this is an issue I need to tighten further to ensure that all instructions are properly understood and adhered to,” he said.

Mohd Shuhaily said the pioneer batch would be deployed entirely at the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link facilities connecting Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands, Singapore, to manage the new entry point.

According to him, early preparations are crucial as the RTS Link is expected to commence full operations on Jan 1, 2027, with operational trial runs at the entry point set to begin as early as October this year.

On the agency’s operational performance, Mohd Shuhaily revealed that AKPS had recorded seizures worth nearly RM50 million as of May this year, compared with RM82 million recorded last year.
