A Pakistani man died and his compatriot was seriously injured after their car crashed into the Sungai Dua toll plaza wall in Butterworth
BUTTERWORTH: A Pakistani man was killed and his compatriot seriously injured after their car skidded and crashed into a wall at the Sungai Dua Toll Plaza here last night.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director John Sagun Francis said the injured passenger was identified as Zafar Iqbal, 42, while the identity of the deceased man has not been confirmed.
He said the department received an emergency call at 10.43pm regarding the incident involving a Perodua Aruz.
“A team from the Kepala Batas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location and found two male victims trapped in the driver and front passenger seats,” he said in a statement today.
“The passenger had been extricated first by members of the public before the fire brigade arrived.”
The seriously injured victim was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment.
The driver was extricated by firefighters using special equipment within 15 minutes with the help of the Volunteer Fire Brigade team.
He was confirmed dead at the scene by the medical team and sent to the same hospital for a post-mortem.
