Penang advances Rumah MutiaraKu initiative with 77.3% of 220,000-unit target achieved and Rent-to-Own scheme for vulnerable groups.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang is intensifying efforts to ensure adequate supply of Rumah MutiaraKu homes across the state to meet public housing needs.
State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the initiative aligns with the Housing for All agenda and the Penang 2030 Vision.
The first target to supply 220,000 Rumah MutiaraKu units by 2030 has achieved 77.3% progress with 170,175 units already completed.
A second target involves supplying 22,000 Rent-to-Own homes with 5,096 units or 23.16% completed so far.
The third initiative aims to benefit 3,000 families through an urban housing scheme and six Urban Renewal projects.
“We hope these initiatives will help the state government achieve its goal of providing housing for all, regardless of background,” he said at the Penang Affordable Housing and Property Expo.
Sundarajoo acknowledged challenges faced by vulnerable groups in obtaining housing loans from financial institutions.
He stated the Rent-to-Own scheme was introduced as a practical and inclusive solution for home ownership.
The Housing Outcome Performance Committee he chairs meets monthly to review applications and ensure only eligible applicants get Rumah MutiaraKu homes.
During his 27 months overseeing the portfolio, 11,058 applicants were offered residential units across various Rumah MutiaraKu categories.
The expo organised by the Penang Housing Board provides public access to information on Rumah MutiaraKu projects and other developments.
A total of 29 exhibitors participated including 13 Rumah MutiaraKu developers and eight property developers.
Five banking institutions and three government agencies also took part in the exhibition.
Earlier, 30 recipients received offer letters for Rumah MutiaraKu units in five different housing projects. – Bernama
