Shah Alam LRT operational update expected next month

Prasarana to announce Shah Alam LRT3 line status next month as fault-free running tests continue, with opening delayed due to system stability issues.

SHAH ALAM: An update on the operational status of the Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line is expected next month.

The line, owned by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, is currently undergoing fault-free running tests for each of its 22 trains.

Shah Alam Line Operations Head Mohd Ariffin Idris said the tests are monitored by the Land Public Transport Agency.

“We have 22 trains for the Shah Alam Line. Each train must undergo this test,” he told reporters.

He confirmed three trains have reached the required distance but need re-evaluation as APAD reassesses the criteria.

Prasarana confirmed earlier this month that the line would not start operations this year.

This delay is due to unresolved system stability and software issues detected during the testing phase.

Prasarana group president Amir Hamdan said the opening will only be announced after all technical components operate stably.

This includes the signalling system, train software and overall network integration, which must meet APAD standards.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ariffin said Prasarana is prepared to offer its expertise to the Selangor government.

The state is considering expanding rail services through the ‘Kita Selangor Rail Line’ project.

He said Prasarana has over 30 years of high-level expertise in public transport.

“For Selangor’s planning, Malaysia already has the experts. I am confident Prasarana is ready to work together,” he added.

He noted that LRT operators in Indonesia have also utilised Prasarana’s services.
