Teenager dies in motorcycle-lorry collision on Linkedua highway

A 16-year-old boy was killed in a crash on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Highway, with his brother injured, as police investigate the incident.

JOHOR BAHRU: A 16-year-old boy died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a lorry on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Highway (Linkedua).

The accident occurred at kilometre 10.2 of the highway’s southbound lane last night.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan said the victim suffered serious head and left hand injuries.

His 21-year-old brother, who was riding pillion, sustained only minor injuries to his right leg.

The accident is believed to have happened when the teenager, travelling from Kota Tinggi to Gelang Patah, suddenly changed lanes from right to left to enter an intersection.

“The lorry, which was travelling straight in the middle lane, did not have time to swerve and apply the brakes, and hit the victim,” Kumarasan said in a statement.

He confirmed the lorry driver was not injured in the incident.

The victim’s body has been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The public is asked to provide any information to assist the investigation via the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters traffic division at 07-5101322.
