MetMalaysia warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in six states including Penang, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah until 7 pm today.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across six states until 7 pm today.
The alert covers Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah, all of Penang, and parts of Perak including Kerian, Manjung, Bagan Datuk, Larut, Matang and Selama.
In Johor, the affected areas are Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru.
The warning also extends to several divisions in Sarawak, including Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya) and Kapit (Song, Kapit and Bukit Mabong).
In Sabah, the interior (Nabawan and Tambunan), west coast (Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau and Kudat are forecast to experience severe weather.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when signs indicate thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are expected to last more than an hour.
The thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert valid for up to six hours.
