Zahid meets China’s Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang in Beijing to strengthen Malaysia-China ties in TVET, AI, trade, energy and technology

BEIJING Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today paid a courtesy call on Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang at the Great Hall of the People here.

During the meeting, which began at 10.15 am, the two leaders held bilateral discussions for about 30 minutes, focusing, among other things, on efforts to strengthen existing cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration in various fields, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Discussions also covered cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), covering infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), the digital economy, telecommunications, trade, renewable energy, as well as science and technology.

Ahmad Zahid also sought feedback on several matters discussed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang during Anwar’s working visit to China from Sept 22 to 24.

Both sides also reached a common understanding on efforts to preserve regional peace and stability through the ASEAN-China framework, as well as address global issues of mutual interest.

The meeting marked the third visit to China by Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, since his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister in December 2022.

The five-day working visit, which began last Monday, will continue with Ahmad Zahid, who chairs the National TVET Committee, scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin tomorrow.
