PM’s announcements signal new pace for national governance

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s announcements set a new governance pace, with measures for MSMEs, contractors, cash aid and major institutional reforms.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcements today signal a new pace for national governance.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said they show views from all quarters are being taken seriously and translated into action.

He said the measures are expected to be well received, particularly by the business community.

They reflect the government’s willingness to listen to industry feedback for a sustainable business ecosystem.

In education, the government has increased allocations for all school types and expedited approvals for infrastructure.

Fahmi said this accelerates project implementation.

“For G1 to G4 contractors, several processes have been simplified, and we believe these steps will directly benefit the small construction industry,” Fahmi told reporters.

He is the MADANI Government’s spokesperson.

Improvements to the Sales and Services Tax and e-invoicing rollout have eased pressure on businesses, especially MSMEs.

The expectation is that higher company revenues will mean better returns for workers.

On cash assistance, announcements included monthly Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and a one-off RM100 SARA for All payment.

The first phase of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) has also provided public relief.

Fahmi noted about 96% of recipients have already redeemed the RM100 SARA for All assistance.

He said using MyKad as a distribution mechanism is efficient, well-targeted and effective in reducing leakages.

“I see this as a significant achievement, particularly for the Ministry of Finance,” he said.

The announcement of four key Bills to be tabled this year underscores the government’s institutional reform agenda.

They cover freedom of information, an Ombudsman, separating the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor roles, and limiting the prime minister’s tenure to 10 years.

Fahmi said the major decisions were agreed upon by the Cabinet.

Preparatory work on the Bills will be led by Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

“After this, Azalina will shoulder much of the work to finalise the Bills so they can be tabled when Parliament starts its new session on Jan 19. We expect some of the Bills to be passed before the Chinese New Year,” he said.

Fahmi added the measures show the government’s commitment to easing business burdens and assisting those in need.

They also aim to build a lasting legacy of institutional reform for the country.
