Kelantan police will not compromise on safety, ordering flood victims to evacuate homes immediately to prevent risks during rising waters.
KOTA BHARU: Police will not compromise with flood victims who refuse to evacuate their flooded homes, prioritising safety above all concerns.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat emphasised that firm action prevents potential tragedies when water levels rise suddenly.
“If there are victims who refuse to move, the police will order them to leave and not stay at home for fear of theft,” he said today.
Police will monitor and inspect abandoned areas to ensure no victims remain and prevent opportunistic crimes.
Delaying relocation complicates rescue operations, particularly during nighttime or rapid flooding conditions.
The flood situation in Kelantan remains under control with evacuations focused on low-lying areas.
Affected districts include Bachok, Tumpat, Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu due to heavy rainfall.
“To date, 9,772 victims from 3,585 families have been placed in 40 temporary relief centres throughout the state,” Mohd Yusoff confirmed.
He advised evacuees to bring valuables and important documents to the relief centres to prevent losses.
No theft cases have been reported from abandoned homes so far during this flood season.
Property damage reports typically emerge only after floodwaters recede, according to police.
Meanwhile, police are intensifying border surveillance to curb smuggling activities during the flood season.
Smugglers may exploit higher water levels by using boats to access restricted areas.
Police will adjust operational strategies accordingly to prevent such illegal activities.
