Anwar urges PKR candidates to engage Sabahans on local issues

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has called on party candidates and machinery to engage directly with Sabahans and explain government initiatives ahead of the state election.

KOTA KINABALU: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded the party’s candidates and election machinery to engage directly with Sabahans and explain current state issues.

The prime minister delivered this message during his speech at the PKR President’s Mandate Ceremony ahead of the 17th Sabah state election.

Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said Anwar emphasised reaching out to people and explaining government efforts to address local concerns.

“He stressed that cooperation between the Federal Government and Sabah State Government must be strengthened to ensure the best service delivery,” Shamsul told reporters.

Anwar also highlighted the need for close collaboration between Sabah’s PKR machinery and party teams at central, state, and division levels nationwide.

“All party leaders have been mobilised to go down to the ground together with divisional leaders in Sabah,” Shamsul added.

Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the president’s mandate underscored thorough preparation by party machinery and candidates.

“The message is clear – the machinery must be fully prepared to go to the ground and address grassroots issues such as water supply, roads, education, and economic development,” he stated.

Mustapha said campaigns should focus on explaining the MADANI Government’s initiatives in resolving local issues involving the Sabah State Government.

Commenting on Datuk Ewon Benedick’s resignation as Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Mustapha described it as premature.

“The decision on whether to appeal the High Court ruling on the 40% revenue entitlement for Sabah has not yet been made, and there is still ample room for dialogue,” he said. – Bernama
