BN candidates win Kinabatangan, Lamag by-elections with large majorities

BN’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar and Mohd Ismail Ayob secure decisive victories in the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.

KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional candidates have won decisive victories in the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.

Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar secured the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat with a huge majority of 14,214 votes.

The 32-year-old Kinabatangan UMNO Youth chief thanked voters for electing him as their new Member of Parliament.

He described the mandate as a huge responsibility and vowed to fulfill his promise to develop the community.

“Obviously, this mandate is a huge responsibility and I promise everyone to work for the community who elected me,” he told reporters.

Naim Moktar also expressed appreciation to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for their assistance.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ismail Ayob won the Lamag state seat with a majority of 5,681 votes.

The 44-year-old described his win as a mandate to carry the voice of Lamag residents to the state assembly.

“Thank you to all Lamag residents who never stopped supporting and also those who did not support,” he said.

Mohd Ismail pledged to continue his previous efforts with non-governmental organisations.

The by-elections were held following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on December 5 last year.
