Deputy foreign minister faces nine-cornered fight in Sabah seat

Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Alamin faces eight challengers for Bongawan in Sabah polls, while neighbouring Membakut sees 10-cornered contest

BONGAWAN: Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin will contest the Bongawan state seat in a nine-cornered fight during the upcoming Sabah election.

The Kimanis MP, representing Barisan Nasional, faces incumbent Dr Daud Yusof from Parti Warisan and Sabah political veteran Tan Sri Anifah Aman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Other challengers include Ridzuan Agus Payong from Perikatan Nasional, Hussin Dasar @ Esah of Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah, and Peter Matinjal from Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat.

The remaining candidates are Dolores Micheal from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, Royston Adven of Parti Impian Sabah, and Independent Md Harris Md Tahir.

Returning officer Suzlan Suhaili confirmed all nine nominations were accepted at the Membakut Islamic Arts Hall.

Dr Daud previously won the Bongawan seat with a 1,802-vote majority in the last state election.

The neighbouring Membakut seat will witness a 10-cornered contest featuring incumbent Datuk Dr Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif from GRS.

Barisan Nasional’s candidate for Membakut is Rusman Dulamit, while Parti Warisan fields Mohamad Said @ Ismail Sait.

Other Membakut contenders include Aziz Angkiu @ Jaafar, Adrian Lajim, Kamal Idris, Rowindy Lawrence Odong, Yahya Ahmad, Suliaman Alladad, and Independent Haslan Wasli.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the Sabah state election.

Early voting will take place on November 25. – Bernama
