Melaka Chief Minister says Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is still an exco member as his resignation letter has not been discussed with the Governor.
MELAKA: Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh remains a Melaka state executive council member.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed the status today.
He said the Merlimau assemblyman’s resignation letter has not been discussed with the Governor.
“I have yet to consult (Tun Mohd Ali Rustam)… which means that for now he remains an Exco member,” Ab Rauf told reporters.
The Chief Minister added that no final decision on the resignation has been made.
“Whether it is accepted or rejected, there has been no final decision yet.”
He was speaking at the Melaka State Executive Council Day with the People Programme.
The event was held at the Seri Negeri Complex.
Dr Akmal had announced his resignation as an exco member recently.
This followed UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi rejecting his call for the party to leave the Unity Government.
Despite submitting the letter, Dr Akmal continues to perform his duties.
“However, as of today, he is still carrying out his duties as an Exco member,” Ab Rauf stated.
Dr Akmal holds the portfolio for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security.
He is also the chief of UMNO Youth.
