Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil reminds all parties to avoid race, religion and royalty issues during Sabah state election campaign.
KOTA KINABALU: All political parties have been reminded to avoid exploiting race, religion and royalty issues during the Sabah state election campaign.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil warned that campaigning on 3R sentiments could undermine social harmony and unity.
He described such tactics as a self-defeating and unhealthy political strategy during his visit to the state election media centre.
“We are very concerned about any campaign activity based on 3R issues,” Fahmi told reporters.
“This is prohibited. Campaign responsibly.”
He urged candidates to use smart and constructive arguments instead of threatening harmony and unity.
The ministry and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are taking all 3R-related complaints seriously.
Fahmi confirmed MCMC is currently investigating three cases involving unlawful content during the election period.
“Two cases have been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, while one remains under investigation,” he said.
He declined to reveal case details as investigations are ongoing but emphasized election laws remain in force.
On telecommunications readiness, Fahmi reported satisfactory infrastructure for polling day.
Twenty-nine polling centres will receive additional Starlink units to ensure stable Wi-Fi access for election personnel.
Installation will be completed by November 28 with all communication towers operating well.
Any disruptions are typically resolved within several hours according to the minister.
The Election Commission has set polling day for November 29 with early voting held today.
