GRS Apas candidate denies racist allegations, files police report

GRS candidate Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan denies racist claims and 30% commission allegations, files police report against defamation

TAWAU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah candidate Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan has filed a police report regarding false posters and graphics linking him to racist statements and commission allegations.

The incumbent Apas assemblyman described all allegations as completely fabricated slander aimed at tarnishing his reputation in the Sabah state election.

“Never came out of me in any form of speech, public statement or campaign material regarding the matter,” he stated in a Facebook post.

Nizam emphasised he maintains close relationships with all races and communities in Tawau and Sabah.

He highlighted his collaborative work with various community organisations including the Sabah Bugis Community Association.

The candidate serves as an advisor to several other ethnic associations in the Apas area.

Earlier, a viral social media image falsely claimed Nizam stated “I do not need the support of the Bugis people.”

Nizam said the defamation contradicts his social work record and involvement in Tawau’s International Cultural Festival.

“I personally met with the state leadership to obtain approval for the festival which brings together various races,” he explained.

The candidate questioned how he could be accused of rejecting support from specific communities given his inclusive track record.

Nizam has instructed his lawyer to file a police report against the portal spreading the defamation.

He stated such dirty politics has no place in Sabah’s democracy.

Apas constitutes one of three state constituencies within the Tawau parliamentary area.

The constituency lies approximately 500 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu.

The Election Commission set November 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah state election.

Early voting will occur on November 25. – Bernama
