MCA reaffirms commitment to BN as founding member, says Wee

MCA president Wee Ka Siong confirms the party remains a founding member of Barisan Nasional, focusing on rebuilding public support for GE16.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has reaffirmed the party’s position within Barisan Nasional.

He stated that MCA remains a founding member of the coalition and has no plans to leave.

“As far as MCA is concerned, we are a founding party of BN. So the founding party is still there,” he told reporters after the president’s policy speech at the 2025 UMNO General Assembly.

His comments follow an invitation from UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for all coalition partners to stay and strengthen BN.

Previously, MCA had indicated it would reassess its position if UMNO specifically cooperated with DAP in the 16th General Election.

Wee said efforts to strengthen the party should be viewed as a process of rebuilding public confidence.

He added that MCA would work hard to win back public support ahead of GE16.
