PH accepts EC decision to keep Silam candidate on ballot

PH accepts EC decision to keep Silam candidate on ballot, ends campaign after withdrawal announcement.

SANDAKAN: Pakatan Harapan has accepted the Election Commission’s decision to retain Abdul Halim Sidek Gulam Hassan’s name on the ballot for the Silam state seat.

PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said existing legal provisions prevent removing a candidate’s name once officially confirmed.

He said PKR has ceased all campaign activities in the Silam constituency following the candidate’s withdrawal.

“When we say we are withdrawing, it means we are ending all campaign operations,” he told media at the Sembang Santai with PH Candidate programme in Gum-Gum.

Sabah PKR Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud announced yesterday that Abdul Halim had withdrawn after discussions with PH top leadership.

EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus confirmed no candidate can withdraw after 10 am on nomination day under election regulations.

The Silam seat features a nine-cornered contest among 28,261 voters.

Polling is set for November 29 with early voting on November 25.
