Police issue 1,140 permits for Sabah election campaign events

Sabah police have approved 1,140 ceramah and campaign permits for the state election, with 17 reports filed but no serious incidents recorded

LAHAD DATU: Police have issued 1,140 permits for ceramah and campaign events for the Sabah state election as of yesterday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said applications should be submitted daily rather than simultaneously to aid security monitoring.

He confirmed 17 police reports have been filed during the campaign period without any serious incidents occurring.

“We express our appreciation to all candidates and campaign personnel for their cooperation and high level of professionalism,” Jauteh told reporters after visiting several police stations here today.

He advised all police personnel to maintain neutrality and avoid favouring any political party.

“This visit aims to ensure the level of preparedness of officers and personnel in facing daily tasks and unforeseen situations,” he explained.

The Election Commission has set November 25 for early voting and November 29 as polling day.

A total of 1,784,843 voters are eligible to cast ballots in this state election.

This includes 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses. – Bernama
