UMS research unit provides crucial analysis on Sabah’s political landscape, helping voters make informed choices in upcoming state election
KOTA KINABALU: Research conducted by Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s electoral studies unit plays a vital role in broadening voter perspectives ahead of the state election.
UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said such studies provide up-to-date information and in-depth analysis on political party offerings.
He added this research helps voters make informed choices about candidates and their development proposals.
“The best package, particularly relating to state development and economic proposals, must be implemented by those elected based on campaign promises,” he said.
Kasim noted that understanding how Sabahans shape their political identity requires continuous research due to the state’s dynamic political landscape.
“Politics in Sabah is dynamic; studies conducted in January may not fully reflect the present situation, so continuity is necessary,” he said.
He emphasized that political and electoral research serves as a window into social and economic change beyond mere statistics.
The research also provides critical information to ensure security in areas considered volatile during elections.
“Enforcement agencies can use these findings to formulate plans for maintaining public order and allocating necessary resources,” Kasim said.
UMS through its Borneo Electoral and Geopolitics Research Unit strives to produce studies meeting these objectives.
