Putrajaya launches 2050 development strategy study

Putrajaya Corporation is conducting a study to formulate a new 2050 development strategy, with public feedback invited from December 17.

PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya Corporation is conducting a study to formulate a new development strategy for the city up to 2050.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced the study is crucial for drafting the Putrajaya Structure Plan 2050 and Putrajaya Local Plan.

The study is currently in its second phase, involving preparation of the scrutiny report with findings on key issues and challenges.

It includes assessment of achievements and shortfalls of the 2025 plan and preliminary proposals for Putrajaya’s development strategy.

Dr Zaliha said the corporation presented 16 strategic findings covering physical, demographic, housing, economic and tourism aspects.

The findings also cover infrastructure, environmental and urban governance aspects during a briefing today.

Among proposals tabled was creating a Special Tourism Investment Zone to boost high-quality tourism investment.

This aims to diversify Putrajaya’s economy beyond its current administrative functions.

The proposal includes developing an integrated data hub at the Putrajaya Urban Observatory to overcome data-sharing limitations.

This initiative aims to improve data-driven decision-making capabilities between agencies.

Other key recommendations involve strengthening the public transport network and enhancing water resources management.

The proposals also focus on improving solid waste management systems throughout the federal territory.

Dr Zaliha invited all Putrajaya residents to provide feedback through a one-month Public Hearing session starting December 17.

The session will be held at the Putrajaya Corporation Complex to ensure comprehensive public participation.

“Your input is crucial to shaping Putrajaya’s new direction,” she said on her official Facebook page.

This will ensure the strategy is data-centric and future-oriented while aligning with smart city aspirations. – Bernama
