Sarawak seeks corporate partnerships to strengthen education system

Sarawak Premier invites banking and education sectors to collaborate on strategic CSR initiatives for long-term educational development

KUCHING: Sarawak is inviting the corporate sector, particularly banks and education industries, to collaborate in strengthening the state’s education system.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said corporate participation through sponsoring digital tools, funding teacher-training workshops or supporting learning hubs would create lasting impact.

He emphasised that corporate social responsibility in Sarawak must evolve beyond one-time donations to become strategic and sustainable initiatives aligned with long-term goals.

“The government can provide policy direction and infrastructure but we need the private sector, banks, universities and local communities to play an active role,” he said during The Hornbill Foundation ‘No Kid Left Behind’ event.

He added that development becomes most effective when everyone contributes according to their individual strengths and expertise.

As Sarawak continues modernising, the state is preparing its people for future jobs in renewable energy, digital services, artificial intelligence and green technology.

Abang Johari stressed that Sarawak’s youth must be equipped with technical skills, creativity and global awareness to seize these emerging opportunities.

“We must view education not only as a social obligation but as a strategic investment,” he said.

“The knowledge and skills we cultivate today will determine Sarawak’s competitiveness tomorrow.”

He concluded by stating that educating one child not only changes an individual life but contributes to building a better Sarawak. – Bernama
