Selangor is confident of hitting its eight million tourist target for 2025, having already welcomed 6.4 million visitors and generated RM11.4 billion in receipts
GEORGE TOWN: The Selangor government is confident of achieving its target of eight million tourists for Visit Selangor Year 2025.
State Local Government and Tourism Exco Datuk Ng Sue Lim said the confidence is based on the 6.4 million visitor arrivals recorded from January to September.
Tourism receipts for that period reached RM11.4 billion, achieving 80% of the annual target.
“We are confident that we can achieve the target set, even more than that considering the number of daily tourists to Selangor is the highest based on the Department of Statistics Malaysia report,” he said.
Ng stated that Tourism Selangor will intensify promotions for ecotourism, cruise tourism and medical tourism in the remaining weeks of the year.
He was speaking after the Selangor Kan Ada! Cruise Trip 2025 programme aboard the luxury cruise ship Piano Land.
Ng said the cruise tourism initiative launched in November is expected to be a key catalyst for increasing visitor numbers.
The initiative aims to develop Port Klang into a homeport, not just a port of call, to boost the local economy.
In line with Visit Malaysia 2026, the state will also emphasise arts and cultural tourism to attract more visitors.
Ng said plans include developing a comprehensive cultural village to showcase Selangor’s unique heritage.
He confirmed collaboration with the Housing and Culture Committee and the Selangor Malay Custom and Heritage Corporation on this project. – Bernama
