Selangor gives Kampung Jawa residents two more weeks to vacate land for the West Coast Expressway, stressing this is the final postponement.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has granted a final two-week extension for 19 Kampung Jawa residents to vacate their land for the West Coast Expressway construction.
State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah confirmed the postponement runs from today until November 24.
An official letter has been submitted to the Klang District and Land Office following residents’ requests for more relocation time.
Borhan stressed this would be the final extension as the project benefits all Selangor residents and Malaysians nationwide.
He emphasised construction must resume without further delay after already being postponed for an extended period.
All affected residents have received temporary accommodation through the SMART Sewa Scheme and appropriate compensation from the WCE concessionaire.
The state government had previously granted a seven-day extension ending November 3 after meetings with residents and relevant agencies.
Nineteen landowners refusing to vacate their homes along a 150-metre stretch had been delaying the over 90% completed WCE project.
The 233-kilometre expressway connects Banting, Selangor to Taiping, Perak as an alternative to the North-South Expressway.
It aims to reduce congestion along current major routes. – Bernama
